Jenny you’re not alone with the low stats and absolute lack of time (school holidays scupper any chance of working on this!) so don’t be disheartened. Your accent sounds fairly local – I’m in Blackpool

It’s so hard fitting it in around actually earning plus looking after the kids! I’m Grimsby, but I’m not sure it has much of its own accent, when I go down south no one can place me!

Please excuse the shocking videography and baby – rushing out the door for a holiday!

Working on a POD site with ChatGPT product desc. and starting to get my pages indexed on search console now- organic traffic is 0 but I’ve seen some impressions!! Hopefully month 2 sees a little more success haha.

      • #14561

        Thanks!

TikTok is easier to use, videos can be prepared and uploaded quickly. Videos on TikTok are shorter, which suits my niche because it’s not serious 🙂 And according to my tests – I have more views, comments on TikTok.

      • #14573

        Thanks for the reply, Silvia!
I have started a YT channel and plan to post only shorts there. I do not know if you know that YT shorts are like TikTok videos and reels on Instagram.
On TikTok, do many viewers go to the profile to click on the website link? Or is there another mechanism to channel them to the website?

Anyone who’s having trouble getting their site indexed, I’d suggest using the rank math instant indexing plugin. For Google you have to take a few extra steps, which sounds daunting, but it’s actually pretty easy if you use this post from Rank Math to walk you through it. Hope this helps! I set it up day 1 and my site has 375 pages indexed vs 11 not indexed. https://rankmath.com/blog/google-indexing-api/?utm_source=Instant+Indexing+Plugin&utm_medium=Setup+Guide+Button&utm_campaign=WP

oh wow, what a challenging month has it been for you!
In your video, you mentioned “Web stories” – what’s that?

      • #14574
        Alpi
        Participant

Web stories is essentially a Google product, a plugin that you download on WP. I use it to create something similar to FB/IG reels/stories with the added bonus that it can appear in Google discover. I had websites where one of these slides brought in 5k traffic per day for a short period of time.
They can also be monetized and I’m pretty sure it counts as google search traffic. This is what helped one of my websites to apply to Mediavine after only 6 months I created it.
So it can be quite good, if your niche fits the profile. Usually image heavy, visual websites in the fashion, cooking recipes, etc have a lot of success, at least in my experience.

      • #14575

SiteKit reports 127 users for Organic Search from GA4 but the GA4 Front end shows me nothing. It also reports 325 users overall from GA4. Search is reporting 9 Clicks through SiteKit, and 217 Visitors.

I’ll try to study up on GA4 and try to figure out Google’s latest helpful content for getting it to display something besides a 0 when I try to get the numbers.

Even though GA4 won’t report users or traffic to me directly, the Google Site Kit plugin does:

According to it, I got 30 Users from Organic Search in October using numbers provided by Analystics. And, 183 users overall. How Google can make GA4 report the numbers through the Site Kit plugin but not directly in GA4 is beyond belief. Search Console shows 30 users as well.

Hey all, here’s my month 1 progress report:

This is essentially the prompt I use in ChatGPT. I say essentially, because mine is customized to fit my site’s needs. The one below is a very general prompt that would work for almost any type of article. Of course, for certain use cases (like recipes or product reviews), the prompt should be more customized. I’m sharing the general one below because it’s more universally useful than the very specific prompt I use. Mine is extremely similar, though. Replace the words in [brackets] with the appropriate information. Use the GPT-4 model.

      Prompt:

Instructions for article targeting the keyword “[your keyword]”:

Title should be simple and descriptive, and list the target keyword first.

      Article body:

      [Insert your outline]

      Guidelines:

Please add a quick summary after the introduction section. Concisely summarize the important points from the article using bullet points. Label as “Quick summary”.

Use simple wording that is easy for anyone to understand, but always use proper terminology.

      Be thorough.

Do NOT leave any section unwritten.

      Use short paragraphs.

Use formatting like bold, italics, lists, and tables where possible.

      Avoid fluff.

Avoid explicit section and heading labels like “V.”.

Optimize for NLP with the provided target phrase.

Format using markdown for CMS compatibility.

Maintain proper heading structure. The title should be H1. Main headings should be H2. Sub-headings should be H3.

If the article is too long to create in a single output, simply stop when necessary and await the user to prompt you to continue.

      End Note:

Take a deep breath and ensure you grasp the format and guidelines. Do you require any clarifications before we proceed?

Once ChatGPT confirms that it understands the requirements and is ready to proceed, simply ask it to begin.

ChatGPT will pause at some point. When it does, simply ask it to continue.

      NOTE:

If ChatGPT isn’t following one of your instructions, specify what it did wrong and ask it to try again.

For example: “Looking good, except that you forgot to ______. Please try again”.

If ChatGPT continues to forget your original instructions, the context window was likely exceeded. If that’s the issue, you will need to begin a new chat.

The context window basically means how far back ChatGPT can remember. For GPT-4, the context window is about 6,000 words (which includes both your instructions AND ChatGPT’s output). However, in my experience, ChatGPT begins to forget things even before it reaches 6,000 words.

Feel free to adjust the prompt as necessary. The real customization is within the outline. The rest of the prompt simply helps minimize the need for editing, and helps ChatGPT to follow best practices.

You seem to be getting a lot of impressions but only a few clicks.
I also noticed that your title prompt for ChatGPT is only one line:
“Title should be simple and descriptive, and list the target keyword first.”

I would experiment with a tool like https://headlines.coschedule.com/headlines.
Take the title from 10 of your articles that have the most impressions on GSC and throw them into that tool.

You might get a better CTA with a better optimized title.
        Good luck.

Does changing titles hurt anything? Do I reindex after I change it? I’m getting over 20k impressions but few clicks. I think I need to update headlines

      • #14502
        Ian
        Participant

Madison, changing titles can affect click through rate, but otherwise shouldn’t hurt anything. You don’t need to reindex. Also, it’s better to just change the title tag (that shows up on the SERPs), not the main H1 heading that shows on your page. All the SEO plugins I know allow you to just change the title tag without changing the heading.

Thanks, Alpi! Cool tool! I entered a few of my headlines and they scored higher than the tool’s alternative suggestions so I’m not sure the headlines are the CTR issue. I think the bigger issue is that a few of my articles rank at the bottom of the first page, and the keywords that I’m targeting can be answered satisfactorily by any result. There’s no need for the user to scroll down and click a lower result. The niche is English grammar, by the way.

I started my hybrid website (ai/human content) in September, and so far, have 83 articles published (44 indexed).
Ave position 44.9, wish I had more clicks and impressions though.
99 health score in ahrefs, ranking for 68 keywords in ahrefs with top position 26 (so work to be done!), 4 backlinks.

Google might have penalized my site. From a peak of 7.2k impressions, now it is getting 0 impressions. The next focus is to start editing the articles and see if it makes any difference.

      • #14516

Oh shoot, the penalty happened so quickly! Sorry to hear that! I hoped we had more time/content to spare before getting under the hammer 😬 I have been carefully editing all my articles from the beginning, which slows me down, of course, but gives more trust to Google, hopefully.

        Jon,

It’s just test to see if Google will pick up the pages naturally. I know submitting is the way to go but I have another site in which google hasn’t crawled my website since October 10. So I’m not sure what’s going on with Google. It could be simply because the sites are new.

Another reason is that I would like to get up to 50 articles before submitting the sitemap and see if that helps in any way.

        Again…just a test.

        Thanks for the question!

      • #14520

Just thought that I should write some facts about I am doing things:
        – for generating text, I use Surfer SEO, which is a bit expensive compared to ChatGPT but is very convenient to use when it comes to editing the text and uploading it to the website
        – in October, I got 1 organic visitor after publishing 11 articles.
        – editing the articles manually slows me down a lot but hopefully, it will prevent from getting penalized down the road
        – I also use my own images and my own face on these images to show Google that it is not a faceless website!
        – To understand my topic better, I bought a subscription to an online community that provides me with a lot of knowledge!
        – my niche is in Gardening and I really enjoy writing about it; it is important for me to keep me pushing!

I feel very behind on the challenge as I have nothing published yet. But I do have 2,589 “Definitions” generated which will be part of my Lawfred.com site. I have not started on NameGrail.com or WordGrail.com, which are the other 2 sites I am intending to build.

So far I have wrote a script to scrape quite a bit of data that I am using as context in my prompts to the OpenAI API to get better output. I find this helps to prevent “Hallucinations” and give better output. I also ran into issues with rate limiting when attempting to bulk generate using the OpenAI API. I solved this by adding a delay of .5s, 1s, and finally 1.5s. Though in the process I did end up wasting about $5 worth of API usage because I was waiting to “save” the previously generated posts in batches. I have also occasionally ran into issues where the API will hang and then I lose all of the previously generated posts. So it is good I was batching them.

I’m hoping that next month I will have a lot of articles generated and published.

      Here is my video.

Here is my video update: https://youtu.be/n3EubXTzf9c

So, in brief, I am running 21 sites for this experiment. I have had some setbacks and operational issues that has delayed my progress. Thus, I still haven’t posted a single article on any of the sites. However, my plan is to post at least 5 articles on each site by mid next week, and at least 10 articles by the end of next week. I have started at a slow pace, but am sure I will catch up.

Finaly got my website up and running. It was a bit of a struggle trying to make the time to get it going. Even managed to post 3 articles. Got 20 more ready to go. My aim is just to improve on my previous months efforts. https://youtu.be/Qv398120dMs

Well, I am an unofficial entry to this challenge, and after seeing the results of other participants I think I’m doing well with my site, as i started late its a 9 days old site and here is the performance so far:

      Articles: 14
      Web Stories: 10
      GSC: 469 Impressions, 3 Clicks
      Discover: 171 Impressions, 6 Clicks.

There are no links obviously and I’m posting 2-3 articles a day right now so hopefully my site will do well in next few months.

Sorry, just got on board. Wanted to ask if everyone is using brand new domain? Or people are using expired domains as well?

It appears that I had a sudden case of S.O. syndrome (Shiny Object Syndrome) when I filled out the form for the new site report at the end of October. I filled in the form but never hit the submit button. This time I not only filled in the form but I submitted it. (Sorry for the extra work Spencer.)
Regardless, my report should strike fear in the hearts of anyone trying for last place because I think I have that placement nailed down.
Time for new strategies and time to double down on my learning and my actions. It may just be time to release my inner Web Master.
      Good Luck to all.

        Tim,

I’m in a battle with you for last place!! Zero traffic so far. I did want to test Google to see if it would find my site without a Sitemap. Unfortunately, the Big G hasn’t found my site.

I’ve am interested to see what happens next month. I have 50 articles on the site and will be submitting my Sitemap tomorrow night or early on Dec. 1 to see if that makes a different on how fast G indexes a site.

        Fingers crossed.

I was wondering If I should start a Twitch blog and later on start selling the Twitch viewers services on it?
